If you have a poor credit score then you know the difficulties it can cause when you are looking for a home loan.  Often times many people with a poor credit score will not even bother trying to apply for loans because they are scared of rejection.  Sadly, if you do have a bad credit rating then you are much more likely to be denied.  However, if you look hard enough you can find a lender willing to give you a poor credit mortgage loan.

The first step in trying to get a bad credit mortgage loan is to find out your FICO score.  Knowing your credit score arms you with the knowledge of exactly what you need to overcome in order to get a loan.  Some people with bad credit scores are reasonable close to having a decent credit rating.  By knowing your score you can also learn how to improve it.  Checking for errors in your credit score is also important because there are certain errors do occur on the report.  

Another step you can take in getting a poor credit mortgage loan approved is to work on improving your credit score.  If you have lots of outstanding debt or loans then it will negatively affect your credit score.  This is not to say that all debt is bad, however, certain debt like credit cards do not positively affect your credit rating. 

Consider trying to consolidate debt, which can help reduce your monthly payments by reducing the interest rates that you would be paying. If possible, try and pay off as much debt as you can, as this will decrease your debt to income ratio.

Saving your money is another key step you can take to get approved for a bad credit mortgage loan. By saving up a down payment of 5-10%, you can ensure that lenders will start to look at you differently. This is because you the risk of lending you money are decreased greatly because of the higher down payment. This will also ensure that you get a lower interest rate, meaning that you will save thousands over the period of the loan.

One more step you can take is start looking at the various lenders available. Because there is a lot of competition in the loan market, if you search hard enough you will be able to find a lender willing to approve your poor credit mortgage loan. You may also get a very competitive interest rate if you follow some of the previous steps to getting a bad credit mortgage loan.
