As a new driver you will find it difficult to get cheap car insurance for young drivers.  This is expected because as a new driver you don’t have the experience of handling difficult situations that occur on the road.  Fortunately, there are certain things you can do to ensure that you get good cheap insurance for young drivers.  Below is a list of a few ways you can start reducing your car insurance rates.

Buy a Small Car- Owning a muscle car is not going to give you cheap car insurance.  However, if you are driving around a relatively new safe car, insurance companies are more likely to give you a discount.  A certain percent of your insurance rate is based on the car you drive, so before choosing the vehicle you drive, take into account the insurance rate you will be paying.

Reduce your Mileage- Getting cheap auto insurance for young drivers is possible if you are only going to be driving the vehicle a few times a week.  The less distance you drive, the lower your car insurance will be.  Most insurance plans have a couple different segments you can fall under such as occasional user, to heavy user.  Depending on how much you drive will determine your insurance price.

Get Good Grades- Believe it or not, some insurance companies actually give new drivers discounts based on their grades.

If you can maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher then you should ask your insurance company if you can get a discount.

Fall Under your Parents Plan- If you really want to save money, then falling under your parent’s auto insurance plan is a good way to do it.  Because your parents are already insured, they would only have to add an additional driver to the plan.  This would translate into savings in your car insurance rate.  You should be living at home to qualify under your parents plan.

Good Credit History- Keeping a good credit rating is another important way to save money on your car insurance.  If you want to get cheap car insurance for young drivers, you should ensure that you have a good credit history.  The unfortunate fact is most young drivers don’t have much of a credit history, so this may not be a factor in their application.

Get Different Insurance Quotes- Looking around is an important way to save you money on cheap car insurance for young drivers.  Look at your local insurance companies and also check the internet.  Often times you can find some great prices online, and compare and contrast the different plans with the click of a mouse.  Doing good research can end up saving you a lot of money of the period of your insurance.
