Best Hypoallergenic Makeup
By Krisy Kay
Women who suffer from sensitive skin often need to wear hypoallergenic makeup to reduce outbreaks. This makeup is made with fewer ingredients that are known to cause allergic reactions. While there is no exact makeup product that will work for everyone, there are certainly some products that are better than other. If you are suffering from sensitive skin it is important that you look for the best hypoallergenic makeup.
The first thing you need to realize when you read the label hypoallergenic is that it is only a rough guideline. The FDA does not enforce strict testing to determine what products are and aren’t hypoallergenic. For this reason there are no universal standards in terms of non allergenic products. It is up to the companies themselves to determine what products are hypoallergenic and which aren’t.
It is important to choose makeup products that are more natural because they are less likely to cause skin irritations than products that are full of synthetic materials. Looking at mineral makeup is often your best bet if you are trying to be safe when choosing your makeup. Because most brands offer a selection of mineral makeup it is important for you to look around.
One of the keys to finding the best hypoallergenic makeup is to look at various product reviews that are available. You will find certain makeup brands have reputations for providing products that are good for sensitive skin. Other brands on the other hand might have a reputation for causing certain skin irritations.
Product reviews are a great way to gauge the overall quality of a hypoallergenic makeup brand. A quick look through different reviews can help you determine the pros and cons with different makeup. If a lot of women are complaining about a certain makeup you should probably avoiding using it.
Probably the best way to avoid skin irritations with makeup is to find out what ingredients you are allergic to. Once you know the specific ingredients that cause irritations on your skin, you can actively work to avoid using a makeup that contains the ingredient.

I am horribly allergic to Bismuth Oxychloride in Mineral Makeup - it makes my skin itch SO bad! And yet, many mineral makeups that contain Bismuth are labeled "hypoallergenic". So, I guess that really is a relative term. I use Mattify! Cosmetic's Powder for Sensitive Skin and LOVE it!! It doesn't contain anything irritating & also has no food based products like rice powder. It's the most gentle powder I've ever used, and powder is a must have for me because my skin is so oily. It can look a bit white if you reapply it thickly over your makeup during the day, but I use it before and after my makeup in the morning, and then retouch with Cover Girl Pressed Powder during the day. If you get itchy irritated skin from most mineral makeup, try the Mattify! Powder underneath. It really does protect the skin so that cosmetics applied on top of it won't bother you as much.
